BURLESON -- Raymond Smith Jr., 72, a maintenance man for the Crowley Independent School District, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 4 p.m. Wednesday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Burleson. Burial: Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Ray was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Sherman. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1952 and played football for the University of North Texas. He married Edna Mae Wallace on June 2, 1953, in Fort Worth. She preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 2003. Along with the Crowley schools, he had worked for Texas Steel and Mike's Texaco in Crowley. He was a member of the Burleson Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church of Burleson. Survivors: Sons, Gene Smith and wife, Eileen of Joshua, Keith Smith and wife, Irene of White Settlement, Scott Smith and wife, Shirley of Joshua, Kenny Smith and wife, Tammy of Burleson; daughter, Rhonda Smith of Burleson; brother, Charles Smith; sister, Judy Smith; grandchildren, Erin Ratliff and husband, Brian, Crystal McWhirter and husband, Jake, Brandy, Ashley, Justin, Ryan, Michael Anthony, Diamond Dave, Kenny Jr., Nikki and Mekka Smith, Christina and Matt Atchison, Amy and Junior Fernandez, Deeanna and Toby Lambert, Britni Roberts; great-grandchildren, Dylan, William, Johnathan, Toby, James, Saylee, Haley, Rebekah, Kaitlyn, Austin; and his best friend, "Bo."
