Rev. Wilbur Leo Stanley

Reverend Wilbur L. Stanley was born in Hillsboro, Texas on July 1, 1941 and passed away in Fort Worth, Texas surrounded by his beloved family on March 7, 2021.

He was a 1959 graduate of Kennedale High School.  He married the love of his life Joe Ann Erwin Stanley on March 4, 1960.  After graduation he attended Southwestern Assemblies of God University beginning his life-long passion of full time Pastoral Ministry.  He was licensed and ordained in the Assemblies of God organization in June of 1970 while serving in his first Pastorate located in Alvord, Texas.  He was recognized in 2020 for 50 years as an Ordained Assemblies of God Minister.  In the years following his first Pastorate in Alvord he also pastored in Glen Rose, Crowley, and Morton, Texas before founding First Assembly of God Church in Joshua, TX in 1974.  Over the next 47 years Rev. Stanley along with his wife Joe Ann and their four children Jan, Joe David, Jill and Jeff served the church and their community. He genuinely was a true shepherd and he loved people without reserve.  His impact and influence on peoples lives goes well beyond the city of Joshua and can be seen and felt through many generations in and around the world.

His legacy will continue through his wife Joe Ann of 61 years and his daughter Jan Aderholt, son Joe David Stanley Sr, daughter Jill Lawrence (John) and son Jeff Stanley (Mindy).  His grandchildren, Tiffany McClain (Chip), Trey McKinley, Jenna Anthony (Brent), JJ Lawrence (Ashley), Jared Lawrence Sr (Christa), Alyssa Stanley, Joe David Stanley Jr, Addy Stanley.  His great grandchildren Charleston McClain; Jaiden, Adrianne & Paisley Jo McKinley, Ellie, Everett, Bree & Gavin Anthony, Kinley & JT Lawrence, Jared Jr, Jace & Jenelle Lawrence.  He is survived by his brother Bill Stanley (Kay) along with multiple nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his father Harvey Desmond Stanley, mother Elvie Elizabeth (Hassell) and his brother Arlie Desmond Stanley.

In Lieu of flowers and to continue his legacy, A memorial fund for Reverend Wilbur L. Stanley has been established to benefit First Assembly of God of Joshua, his life‘s work.
