Robert Douglas Arnold
January 2, 1947 – November 23, 2021
Robert Douglas Arnold was born in Rotan, Texas on January 2, 1947 to John William (J.W.) and Marguerite Arnold. He passed away peacefully at his house on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 and was transported to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Robert grew up in several towns in west Texas including Rotan, Paducah and Vernon with his parents and older brother John. He loved playing baseball and football but also worked hard from the time he was a small boy, picking cotton or mowing yards where he was paid in either pocket change or chocolate cake.
Robert moved with his family to Burleson, Texas in the early 60’s where he attended Burleson High School and later Hill College and Texas Wesleyan University. He was an active member in the First United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship (MYF) where at church camp he met 16 year old Judy Owens when she shared a liverwurst sandwich from her sack lunch that no one else would eat. They would later marry in the same church on December 20, 1969. In the late 1970’s he began working for the Burly Corporation selling fence materials and ranch supplies in Burleson where he and Judy went on to build a home and raise their family, retiring after 37 years with the same company.
Robert will always be fondly remembered for his infectious sense of humor, telling corny jokes, love of watching funny old movies, hunting and fishing; and above all eating larrupin food and spending time with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marguerite and John William “J.W.” Arnold and brother, John William Arnold II.
Robert is survived by his wife Judy Arnold, son Danny Arnold and daughter-in-law Martha Arnold, daughter Katy McDaniel, son Michael Arnold and four grandchildren Kimble Joy Arnold, Lauren McDaniel-Holmes, Hunter McDaniel and Rylee McDaniel; nephews John Arnold III and David Arnold as well as a multitude of “adopted” family and friends.
His kindness and generosity will not only be remembered today, but in the legacy he has created with every gentle smile, graciousness and intensely faithful spirit which have crafted precious memories and guiding values that his family and friends will forever live by and cherish.
