Robert Hal Douglas Sr., (1936-2024); 87 of Burleson, TX., best known as "Bob" passed away, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Lynridge Assisted Living in Murphy, Texas. He was born to Cecil & Mary Frances Douglas on November 23, 1936, in Los Angeles, California. His family moved to Texas in 1945. He attended Burleson High School with the class of '55 and joined the Army from 1958 to 1960. Bob joined the police force in Cleburne, TX where he worked for two years before transferring to the City of Burleson for thirty-two years. During that time, he served as Seargent, Lieutenant, Captain and his all-time favorite, McGruff, the Dare Dog. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Burleson Fire Department as well as Tehuacana Fire Department.
Bob was a Master Peace Officer for the state of Texas and received numerous awards throughout his years including the very first "Employee of the Year" from the City of Burleson in 1976 and again in 1986-87; the JW Norwood award in 1988 and multiple awards from area schools for involvement in the DARE program and Crime Stoppers with Johnson County.
After retiring from the City of Burleson he enjoyed traveling and RVing with family and friends as well as volunteering for Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. He was a drone flying, golf cart driving, catfish feeding, popcorn making, donkey whispering kind of guy. As they say in the movie, "Secondhand Lions", "He lived, he truly lived!"
At the present time, Bob has his membership letter at the Central Baptist Church of Hillsboro, Texas. Although, he has attended and volunteered services with several Baptist churches in his travels.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Brown Douglas; daughters, Terri (Richard) Bennett, Toni (Michael) Cook, Traci (Michael) Jakob; stepdaughters, Brenda Crowell, Donna (Warren) Bird; eleven grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and multiple foster children.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil & Mary F Douglas, brother, Steve Douglas, son, Bobby Douglas, and daughter, Tina Douglas.
Services will be held Monday, October 21, 2024, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, 3407 SW Wilshire Blvd., Joshua, Texas, 76058. Visitation is at noon; Funeral is at 1 PM, followed by a gravesite service with the Honor Guard at Burleson Memorial Park Cemetery, 490 Memorial Plaza, Burleson, TX 76028.
