Rose Meri Hall was born in Mexia, TX, on Tuesday, February 13, 1951. She was an early Valentine gift from the Lord to her “mother and daddy” as she fondly called them, Chester and Ruby Morris Hill.
Chester was a passionate servant of the Lord and was called to ministry at an early age in life. Ruby was the most loving and devoted preacher’s wife one could ever imagine. Together, they created a beautiful family and were blessed by the Lord with 3 precious girls. Rose (as she preferred to be called later in life) was the youngest and the one that completed the family. She was blessed with two older sisters, Anita Sue and Jan Elaine, who always took care of and watched out for her in life.
Being a “preacher’s kid”, the family moved often during Rose’s childhood as Chester and Ruby would faithfully answer the call each time the Lord needed them somewhere new. The family was living in McGregor, TX when Rose was born. From there they were called to Fort Worth, then Waco, and lastly to Arlington, TX where Rose attended and graduated from Arlington High School in 1969.
After high school, Rose married and was soon blessed with two children, Angie and David. Rose felt her children were the light of her life and her sole purpose on earth. She was the best mother a child could ever ask for. Rose ended up becoming a single mom when David and I were young. My mom worked so tirelessly to provide a loving home for her children and went above and beyond to give us the very best childhood possible. Though money and times were tight, my mom always found a way to do things with us. She absolutely loved family vacations and would plan one every summer to somewhere. It did not matter if we went a few hours or states away as long as we were together and having fun.
In July 1982, the Lord grew Rose’s purpose in life a little more when she met and fell in love with a great man named David Hall. When my brother, David, and I met “the other David” we quickly became very fond of him. He was so fun to be around and always made us laugh with his silly kind of craziness that makes him so special. For a man that had never really been around children, he took right to us as well. If you didn’t know better you would have thought he had been there our entire lives. He loved us and we loved him very much.
Rose and David continued to date for many years. In November 1991, Rose’s world was completely shattered when she very suddenly and unexpectedly lost her son, David. This loss absolutely crushed my mom’s heart and soul, and forever left its painful mark and emptiness on her life. Rose relied heavily on her faith and family to help her to walk thru the darkest time of her life. Rose loved the Lord with all of her mind, body, heart, and soul. She was a saved Christian and child of God who had a personal and intimate relationship with Him. Rose prayed more prayers in her lifetime than most of us could possibly count.
On October 8th, 1994, David and Rose decided it was finally time to get married after dating for 12 years. With much urging from me, being 7 months pregnant at the time, they knew the time had come. They wanted to be married before the arrival of their first grandchild.
Rose became a “Memaw” on Monday, December 19th, 1994 with the birth of Ashten Nicole. Just a few years later she would become a “Memaw” for the second time with the birth of Garrett David on Friday, December 18th, 1998. Rose loved and cherished her grandbabies as they gave her new hope, joy, and purpose in life. She loved being a “Memaw” more than anything else on this earth.
While Rose was never much of one for hobbies or pastimes, she enjoyed anything she did with her family. She loved fishing with her husband David, talking and visiting sometimes for hours on end about anything and everything with her best friend and daughter (me), going to movies
with her “Honey Lamb” (aka Ashten), and watching and talking about the TX Rangers games with “Bubba G” (aka Garrett). Rose was a big Dallas Cowboys fan even though she stayed disgusted with them most of the time.
Rose had a very special relationship and bond with her two bonus grandchildren, Ashten’s husband Destin and Garrett’s wife Christine. She always said she could not love them anymore if they were her very own. The day her grandchildren got married she knew they would be well loved and taken care of for the rest of their lives, as the Lord blessed them each with faithful Christian spouses that put the Lord first in their lives.
Lastly, but certainly not least, our Memaw was so thrilled that she lived long enough to become a “Great Memaw”. Leighton Grace was born to Garrett and Christine on Saturday, July 9, 2022. She was the apple of her Great-Memaw’s eye. Although Rose was not granted much more time on this earth after Leighton was born, it was looking at photos and videos we had taken of
Leighton and her time together with her Great Memaw that got her through her final months. Mom would tell me all the time if she was having a bad, sad, or difficult day, all she had to do was see her great-grandbaby and her heart and mind would fill with joy and happiness.
Leighton’s last visit with her Great Memaw was the end of August this year when my mom was very ill in the hospital. We snuck Leighton into ICU a few times (one of which we got busted) to see and visit her Memaw. It was on this visit that Leighton was old enough to associate who Memaw really was, as they played peek-a-boo from Mom’s hospital bed. This bear right here was given to Leighton by Memaw at that visit and has since come to be known as “Memaw’s Bear”.
Rose was called home to Jesus and gathered with the saints in heaven on Saturday, October 14, 2023. It had to be the biggest day of celebration in heaven when my mom saw Jesus, her mother Ruby, her daddy Chester, her sister Sue, and, after nearly 32 long years on earth, her precious son David. Oh what a joy that day must have been!
Rose is survived by her husband of 29 years, David Hall; daughter Angie Farr and husband Jerry of Burleson, TX; granddaughter Ashten Ferguson and husband Destin of Alvarado, TX; grandson Garrett McCord and wife Christine and their daughter Leighton of Helotes, TX; sister Jan Davis of Arlington, TX; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws whom she all loved so dearly.
Sweet Momma, I love you forever and always. Angie
