Samuel L. "Papa" Morton

Samuel Leonard Morton, 83, of Burleson passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018. He was born Aug. 28, 1934, to Samuel and Mary (Whitney) Morton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018, in the Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. before the service. Interment will be held at George's Creek Cemetery. Samuel was an avid bowler and loved baseball, especially the Texas Rangers. He also loved the Dallas Cowboys and outdoor sports. He coached baseball with the Burleson Youth Sports Assocation and served as a deacon at Graceview Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Leathers; parents, Samuel and Mary Morton; and son, Donny Baxter. He is survived by his wife, Cinda Morton of Burleson; son, Keith Morton and wife, Suzanne, of Burleson; daughter, Jackie Griffith and husband, Wesley, of Fort Worth; son, Travis Baxter of Cleburne; two brothers, Bob Morton of and Donald Morton and wife, Patsy, all of Paris, Texas; grandchildren, Kelli Griffith-Dyess, T.J. Baxter, Derek Baxter, Wesley Ryan Griffith, Chad Leathers, Jenn Leathers, Jason Leathers, Chelsey Johnson, Challey Hernandez, Chance Morton and Donny Baxter Jr.; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
