BURLESON -- Samuel Lloyd Taft, 80, a retired industrial cook at the Federal Correctional Center in Fort Worth, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, in Burleson. Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Burleson. Burial: private family burial in Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cross Timber Baptist Church, the Goodrich Center for the Deaf, or a charity of choice. Mr. Taft was born April 14, 1926, in Mount Pleasant to Joseph Riley and Zula May Marshall Taft. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea. He married Grace Laverne Hood on Sept. 3, 1949, in Pittsburg, Texas. He was a member and deacon of Cross Timber Baptist Church in Burleson. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Calvin Taft; and sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Tommy Beggs. Survivors: Wife of 57 years, Laverne Taft of Burleson; daughters, Joy "Fay" Williams and husband, David of Burleson, Barbara Comeau and husband, Mike of Saginaw; grandchildren, Richard Williams and wife, Sandi, Stephen Williams and Kimberly Rees, Justin Comeau; brother, Kenneth Taft and wife, Will Anne of Pittsburg; sister-in-law, Loveline Taft of Houston; several nieces, nephews and other family members.
