In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Taylor
December 22, 1941 – October 2, 2023
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Taylor, a beloved 81-year-old wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who departed this world on October 2, 2023. She passed away gently and peacefully surrounded with love by her loved ones and her nurse Alicia, whom she adored.
Born on December 22, 1941, Shirley was a joy to everyone she encountered, and it was often said by her mother Lola, that she never met a stranger from the time she was born. She was known for her laughter, humor, and her ready smile to all. Shirley always had a compliment or kind word for anyone who crossed her path and was a lover of people.
In her personal life, Shirley was a devoted family member and friend. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Shirley married the love of her life, Thomas Taylor, in 1959 and they spent the next 40 years together until he passed in 1999. She always cherished the time spent with her family and friends, especially with her mother Lola Mae, while creating treasured memories that will live on in our hearts. She was an avid gardener, painter, reader, and collector. Shirley spent countless hours focused on the project or hobby she held dear, with her oil paintings being something she was proud of until her final years.
As we say goodbye to Shirley, may we remember the memories of her love, laughter, and joy she shared with those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her much-beloved husband of 40 years, Thomas Taylor, her father Bob Eudy, her mother Lola Mae Eudy-Huff, her brother Jimmy Eudy, and her companion and dear friend, Lester Sain. Shirley is survived by her children, Terry Taylor, and Angie (Oskar) Jakobsson, her sister Myra (Sam) Law, and her five grandchildren, Brianna Jakobsson, Blake Jakobsson, Lukas Jakobsson, Tarah Clubb, and Seaver Taylor, sisters-in law, Martha Linton, Jane (Dennis) Massey and Carolyn Eudy, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
Though Alzheimer’s ultimately claimed many of Shirley’s memories and abilities, it never dampened her love of people or extinguished her smile. Her story will always serve as a reminder of strength and resilience while she faced the most challenging of circumstances in her day-to-day life. In her final months, Shirley and her family were tremendously blessed with a staff of earthly angels from New Century Hospice. Our gratitude can never be expressed for the compassionate care that was given to our family during that time.
To celebrate the life of Shirley, family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services held at Mountain Valley Funeral Home on Friday, October 6, 2023, with a viewing and visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Chapel services to begin at 1:00 PM followed by a private family burial at
