Stanley Sheldon Gomer Jr

Stanley S. Gomer, Jr., 93, of Burleson Texas, went to meet his Lord and Savior on March 13, 2023. Stanley was born January 25, 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas to Ocie Felts Gomer and Stanley S. Gomer, Sr. He grew up near the Stockyards of Fort Worth and would meet the love of his life, Wanda Springer, at Rosen Heights Presbyterian Church. They married on April 25, 1951 and were devoted to one another for over 71 years centering their marriage and family around God.

Stanley was a military veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War for 21 months shortly after marrying. Following his time in Korea, he was a dedicated worker of the Texas Highway Department for 34 years. Outside of work, Stanley enjoyed time outdoors gardening, fishing, hiking, hunting, and traveling. He and Wanda visited 48 of the 50 states only missing Alaska and Maine. After his retirement, he became an an avid woodworker creating many beautiful pieces of furniture which he enjoyed gifting to others.

Stanley was a devout Christian and a founding member of Pathway Church. He spent his time taking on leadership roles in the church, teaching Sunday school and being a lay preacher at times. He guided his family with his faith through word of mouth, but also through his actions.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Edgar “Bill” Gomer, his older sister, Helen Gomer Schluter, and his wife, Wanda Gomer. He is survived by his children Dr. Wes Gomer (Charles Shelton), Vicki Jeannine Crouch, Stanna Ruth Casner (Craig), grandchildren Leslie Cook, Jason Crouch, Colt (Camilla), Clayton and Kyra Casner, and great granddaughter Emery Cook, sisters-in-law Judy Springer and Mae Gomer, and many nieces, nephews, extended church family and friends.

Services for Stanley Gomer, Jr. are as follows, family visitation on Friday, March 24 from 6 to 8 PM at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Burleson and celebration of life on Saturday, March 25 at 10 AM at Pathway Church in Burleson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Stanley S. Gomer to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Missions Ministry Team, 8207 Traditional Place, Cordova, TN 38016-7414.
