Thomas L. "Tom" Nipp, 73 of Cleburne, a retired minister and author, passed from this life into life eternal on Saturday Oct. 2, 2010 in Cleburne. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Saturday Oct. 9, 2010 in Tyler Memorial Cemetery, Tyler, TX. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. He was born on Nov. 23, 1936 in Abilene, TX. The son of Rev. and Mrs. T.L. Nipp. He was preceded in death by both parents. He completed high school in Brownfield, college at Hardin-Simmons University, Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He served in the U. S Army band in Washington D.C., and all over the far east and orient until entering the ministry in 1966. He was married to Margaret Mathews in 1962. She preceded him in death in 1995. They had three sons: Timothy Nipp of Whitehouse, James Nipp of Whitehouse, Stephen Nipp of Tyler, and seven grandchildren. In 1999 he married Ann McKee Metcalf in Cleburne. They had been childhood friends in Brownfield in the early 1950's. Over the years he served as pastor in Abilene, Winona, Lake Palestine, New Chapel Hill, Swan, and Tyler. The final years of his life were spent in writing. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and seven grandchildren along with two step-daughters, Alisa Tucker of Burleson, and Beverly Halbrook of Waynesville, Ohio; three step-grandchildren; one brother, Billy Nipp of Cleburne. His sister, Joan Gilchrist preceded him in death in 2005.
