Troy Smith

BURLESON: Troy Smith, age 55, joined his father and his Lord on June 10th, 2016, after a valiant fight with the leukemia that ravaged his body. SERVICE- A Celebration of Troy's life will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, June 18th at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 12351 Oak Grove Rd. South, Burleson, Tx. 76028 with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Troy Smith scholarship fund at the National Bank of Texas, PO Box 1869 Burleson, Tx. 76097 or at youcaring.com/troysmithscholarship Troy was born to the late Elvin Troy Smith and Jo Ann Smith in Arlington, Tx. on Sept., 9, 1960. He graduated from Burleson High School in 1979 and received a BS in Information Systems in 2000 from the University of Texas, Arlington. He received a Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School, TCU in 2005. Troy was a leader, always dependable, loved music and had a great sense of humor. He used those qualities as a youth pastor at St. Matthew Presbyterian and at First Christian Church in Burleson. He also directed camps for youth in the summers. Many young adults have expressed to the family the influence and guidance that he had on their lives growing up. He was always firm but fair and had as much fun as the kids. Troy was ordained as a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and served as pastor of Grace Christian Fellowship in Burleson. He was currently employed as a risk analyst for T. D. Ameritrade. In 1985, Troy married Suzy Watson and they had one son, Spencer Smith, in 1990 who was the light of Troy's life. They shared a love of technology and TCU horned frogs. On April 11, 2015, he married Sandra Rinehart and they had a year of great happiness before the cancer took over. Sandra, Troy's mother and stepfather were all with him at M. D. Anderson throughout the long ordeal of a stem cell transplant, donated by Spencer. Troy's passing leaves a huge hole in our family. He will be greatly missed but he left the world a far better place. Preceded in death by his father, Elvin Troy Smith, and grandparents Katie & Nolon Smith and Edwin Lemons. SURVIVORS; Spouse, Sandra Smith; mother, Jo Ann Smith Haedge & husband Roland; brother, Robby Smith; son, Spencer Smith & wife, Allie; nephew Dawson Smith, and niece Hayley Smith, all of Burleson and many other family members and friends.
