Walter Kellum Shirley, 89, of Burleson, a retired welder passed away Tues. February 21, 2012 in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 am Friday at Reece Prairie Baptist Church 9705 CR 1016 Burleson, TX 76028. Interment: Caddo Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 pm Thursday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Walter was born April 30, 1922 in Corsicana to Athey Herbert and Ora Cecil Kellum Shirley. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. He married Patsy Keen on June 2, 1946 in Whitney. Walter loved fishing, hunting, family and church which he was very actively involved. He also loved life in general & telling stories about his life. Walter also served as a Baptist Minister years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Christine Griffin; brothers, Eugene Jack Shirley and Clifford Barnett Shirley. Survivors: Wife, Patsy Shirley of Burleson; sons, Glenn Ray Shirley of Mesquite, Larry Gene Shirley and wife Beverly of Joshua, Garry Dean Shirley and wife Lynn of Cumby; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; brother, L.J. Shirley of White Settlement; sister, Betty June Rutledge of Rio Vista; hunting partners, Paul Everoad, Bill Roper, Larry Shirley; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
