Carey Wayne Bradshaw was born in Haskell, Texas on March 26, 1935 to James Edward and Ruby Alma (Vinson) Bradshaw. He went to be with the Lord on Friday afternoon February 14, 2020 surrounded by family at his home in Joshua, Texas.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at Rosehill Cemetery in Cleburne. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday at Lane Prairie Baptist Church.

Wayne grew up in the Cleburne area. He started working in a grocery store at age 13, starting his life-long career in that business. The grocery he started at was Cash Service, a well-known grocery in Cleburne in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. While working there he met his future wife Glenna Faye Gordon, daughter of John and Irene Gordon of Friendship community, south of town. Wayne and Glenna were married on October 9, 1954.

Wayne always said that “people have to eat”, and this was the motivation of his chosen career the grocery business. He worked his way up the ladder to management positions and ultimately as a Grocery Business Owner. In October of 1974, Wayne, Glenna and the kids moved to Joshua, Texas, as Wayne along with long-time friend and co-worker, Bill Wood founded their own business, B & W Thriftee opening on Main Street, later moving to a new location on the northwest corner of the intersection of Hwy 174 & FM 917, and a few years later building a new location on the southeast corner of that same intersection. For several years they also had a second store located in Whitney, Texas. Wayne retired in the early ‘90’s to their home east of town, tending their property and being a really fun Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents James and Ruby Bradshaw, his sister Edwinna and her husband Clifford Caine, sister and brother-in-law Marie and Bobby Graves and eldest son Larry Wayne Bradshaw.

He is survived by his wife of 65 yrs., Glenna Bradshaw and two children, Kim Booher and husband Rusty of Joshua and Jimmy Bradshaw and wife Denise of Joshua. Also, by grandchildren: Larry Bradshaw, Karrie Bradshaw, Tegan Needham and husband Ben, Ashli Brown & husband Justin, Evan Booher and Noah Bradshaw. Wayne & Glenna have 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
