William Edward Asbury Sr. of Burleson, Texas, was born August 2, 1943 in San Angelo, Texas and went home to Jesus on October 19, 2020 at the age of 77.
William was born to Edgar and Adell Asbury. He was second eldest of eight children: Charles Asbury, William Asbury, Lois Bettis, Jerry Asbury, Melvin Asbury, Larry Asbury, Alvin Asbury and Jody Cunningham.
William was a truck driver for more than 50 years. He was a house mover, worked at a chemical plant, hauled milk, cows and hazardous materials and traveled throughout the majority of the United States.
He was honored as “Driver of the Year” in 1980 while working for Handy Dan Distribution. He also was honored as a “One Million Mile Driver” on September 30, 2005 for safe driving while working for Landstar Trucking Company.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Asbury, of Burleson, Texas; son and daughter-in-law William and Jeannie Asbury of Hagerstown, Maryland; daughter Cheryl Asbury of Euless, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Brent York of Cypress, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Angela and Guy Sigmon of Burleson, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Christy and Michael Marshall of Burleson, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Richard Philhower of Fort Worth, Texas; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
William was a good-hearted, hard-working, caring man who loved his family and God. He became a Christian on August 19, 2019 after being diagnosed with lung cancer, which was in remission by November 2019. He is loved deeply and will be greatly missed by his entire family. He looked forward to meeting his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. November 21, 2020, at First Baptist Church of Lytle, Texas, 18627 N. Prairie Street.
