TYLER -- William Z. "Dub" Cheek Jr., 86, of Tyler, a retired machinist, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, in Tyler. Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park, Fort Worth. Vistitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Dub was born June 24, 1922, in Kopperl to William Zebulin Sr. and Mattie Ann Seago Cheek. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Dub loved auto and motorcycle racing, working on his automobiles, bluegrass country music and especially telling stories. Dub was a very active and involved member of his church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Owens Cheek, in 2000; brothers, Doyle Cheek, Clead Cheek, Merrill Cheek; and sister, Lucille Choate. Survivors: Wife, Mariece Cheek of Tyler; son, David Cheek and wife, Diana, of Goliad County; brothers, Grady Cheek and wife, Juanita, of Cleburne, Wayne Cheek and wife, Nell, of Cedar Hill; sister, Ophelia Mullen of Cleburne; grandchildren, David Cheek, Eric Kuykendall; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
