William E. "Bill" Funke, 79, a retired highly decorated U.S. Marine Corps master sergeant, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1308 Whitley Road, Keller. Burial: 3 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Burleson. Memorials: Donations may be made to the Emery J. Lilge Hospice House "Wish List" in memory of William E. Funke, 301 Medpark Circle, Burleson, Texas 76028. William Edward Funke was born Oct. 26, 1925, in Lawrenceville, Ill., to Henry Christian and Susan Heath Funke. He married Norma Jean Fyffe on Oct. 28, 1951, in Lawrenceville. He proudly served his country for 32 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. This included service in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and cooking, and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Keller. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Jean Funke, on March 6, 2002; and a brother, Robert Funke, in 1998. Survivors: Son, Gary Lynn Funke and wife, Teresa Marie, of Watauga; brother, Roy Funke and wife, Dorothy, of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Mildred Huddleston and husband, Charles, of Lawrenceville, Ill., and Frances Elliott of Nashua, Iowa; grandchildren, William E. Funke II, Kristina Marie Funke and Gabrielle Lynn Funke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
